I like my 17" MBP, mainly for its big screen. I have 3 more powerful MBPs that I can call upon for serious number crunching. ![]() That is one physical limitation I have to accept which for the past 8 years hasn't proved that much of an obstacle. The 32-bit Core Duo processor in my 17" MBP cannot accommodate more RAM. However, you seem to be advising me to increase my RAM, which I would love to do, but I am already maxed at 2GB. I have reread your other comments concerning increasing RAM several times and in general agree with them. I use Activity Monitor frequently to get a feel for how my system is performing. The greater access speed of SSD over HDD will tend to have the opposite effect and slightly improve matters. Yes, I accept that more RAM will reduce page-outs and this may explain why my MBP slows down when the number of running applications increases. It will take me some time to work may way through all of them. Wow! That is a long list of recommendations.
